Adelaide Cotter Murphy (1921-2005) of Boston, Massachusetts, served in the Woman Marines as a pilot Link trainer from 1943 to 1945. Adelaide Murphy was born 29 August 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1939, and then attended nearby Lesley College for teacher training. Murphy joined the Woman Marines in early 1943 and was sent to Hunter College in New York for basic training. Following basic training, she was sent to Atlanta, Georgia, for LITIS (Link Instrument Training Instructors School). She was then stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina, in mid-1943 to be a Link Trainer. She was transferred to nearby Bogue, North Carolina, and was in charge of the Link department.
