Audrey Knyrim Mattern (1919-2004) of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, worked in the Quartermaster Department with the Marine Corps Women's Reserve from 1943 to 1945. Audrey Knyrim Mattern was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, on 20 November 1919, the oldest of six children. Her father was a machinist for the Cranberry Collier and a janitor and her mother was a homemaker. Mattern graduated from Hazel Senior High School in 1937 and then held various positions at a five-and-ten cent store, weekly newspaper, credit bureau, and jewelry store. Mattern enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve in March 1943 and received orders in July.
