Bessie L. Herbert (1906-1971) served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. In 1943 and 1944, she was stationed at Camp Grant, Illinois; Fort Sheridan, Illinois; Springfield, Massachusetts; and Des Moines, Iowa.
