Daisy Chamness Proctor (1919-2008), of Bennettsville, South Carolina, served in the American Red Cross from 1943 until 1946. Daisy Bethea Chamness Proctor grew up in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She graduated from high school in 1936 and then earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1940. Her first job was teaching science and coaching basketball in Loris, South Carolina. After one year in Loris, Proctor taught general science in Rock Hill, South Carolina, for two years.
