Dolores Meurer Reed (1918-2011) of St. Louis, Missouri, served in the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) from 1943 to 1944 and continued flying as a hobby. Dolores Meurer Reed was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1918. After graduating from high school, she worked as a model and dance instructor. She used the money she earned to pay for flight lessons. In 1943, Reed enlisted in the WASP and reported to Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas, for flight training. She graduated in February of 1944 and was sent to Moore Field in Mission, Texas, to work as a tow target pilot. In August 1944 she was assigned to Kingman, Arizona, for B-26 training, but transferred instead to San Marcos, Texas, to be close to her fiance.
