Dora Ann DeHart Atha served as an enlisted member of the United States Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1961 to 1964. Dora Ann DeHart Atha was born in 1942 in the Eden area on the border of North Carolina and Virginia, where she grew up. Upon graduating from high school in 1960, she worked in the area before enlisting in the United States Army in April of 1960. She enlisted in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was sent to Fort McClellan, Alabama for basic training.Atha, then DeHart, was then sent to Fort Sam Houston, Texas in July of 1961 to be trained as a medic, leaving for Fort Bragg in October of 1961.
