Frances B. Bailey (1920-2006) of Concord, North Carolina, worked in supply, disbursing, and payroll in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from April 1943 to October 1946. She then resumed her career in education as a math teacher and school administrator in the Carolinas. Frances Barringer Bailey grew up in Concord, North Carolina, and graduated from Concord High School in 1936. She attended Pfeiffer Junior College in Misenheimer, North Carolina, for two years, and then transferred to the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro).
