Hazel Meeks Jones (1918-2005) of Taliaferro County, Georgia, served in the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) from 1942 to 1965. Hazel Meeks Jones was born in 1918 to sharecroppers in Talliferro County, Georgia. She graduated from high school in Crawfordville and then completed three years of nursing school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Following graduation she worked at a tuberculosis sanitarium in Alto, Georgia. Jones enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) in 1942 and completed basic training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. She was assigned to the station hospital in Atlanta, where she worked as an operating room scrub nurse for a year and a half.
