Jane Hydes Council (1922-2010), was born 4 June, 1922 in Pennington, New Jersey. After graduating high school in 1940, Council wanted to join the United States Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), but couldn't until she was twenty-one years of age. In the meantime, she assisted with the war effort by working in the office of an airplane factory, as well as a gyroscope plant in Hopewell, New Jersey, until July 1943 when she enlisted with the WAACs. Council was given orders to Fort Devens, Massachusetts for WAAC training, but after two weeks the WAAC was converted to the United States Women's Army Corps (WAC), and Council was sent to Daytona Beach, Florida for her training instead.
