Colonel Sandra L. Venegoni (b. 1940), of St. Louis, Missouri served in the United States Army Nurse Corps from 1972-1995. Sandy Venegoni was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on 3 August, 1940 and she trained at St. John's Mercy Medical Center before joining the Sisters of Mercy Convent. She continued her nursing education while in the convent, and graduated from St. Louis University with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Venegoni worked at teaching hospitals in Springfield and St. Louis, Missouri as well as Vicksburg, Mississippi, before leaving the convent in 1969. Venegoni spent the next year working for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend graduate school at Emory University.
