Elizabeth Ann Beth Carlin was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on 5 February, 1984. Her father was a U.S. Navy veteran. While she was attending Forsyth Technical Community College, Carlin visited a recruiter and decided to join the army. She joined the navy and went to basic training at Naval Station near Chicago in 2004. After basic training, Carlin went to Pensacola, Florida where she learned how to be an aviation electronic technician. Carlin was then assigned to Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia where she worked with repairing plane parts. She worked in Oceana for a few years before transferring to California in 2008. She was deployed on the USS Nimitz, an aircraft carrier, where she assisted in repairing parts for the planes. After being deployed three times, in 2010, Carlin left the navy and moved back to North Carolina where she went to UNCG for nursing. She also joined the Navy Reserve where she helps prepare navy officers for overseas deployment. Currently she works with both the UNCG School for Nursing and the Navy Reserves.
