Louise Ross Yegge (1918-2002) of Harrisburg, Arkansas, served in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Service) from 1942 to 1945. Louise Ross Yegge was born on 12 March 1918 in Harrisburg, Arkansas. She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1934, and went to work in the Sears, Roebuck and Company mail-order plant in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived in the city with an aunt for six years and then rented an apartment with a friend. Yegge enlisted in the United States Navy WAVES in December 1942 and reported for basic training at Hunter College, New York. She then completed four months of storekeeper's school at the University of Indiana in Bloomington. She was then assigned to Naval Air Station, Ottumwa, Iowa, where she worked in the storeroom until her discharge in September 1945. Yegge met her husband, John Francis Yegge, while both were stationed at Ottumwa, and they were married February 6, 1945. After they were both discharged, the Yegges moved to Boone, Iowa. In 1953, the couple moved to Memphis, and they later settled in Greensboro, North Carolina. During this time, Yegge raised two sons, Vince and Mike. Louise Yegge passed away on June 9, 2002.
