Sue Lamm Gurley (b. 1948), of Wilson, North Carolina, served as a nurse with the Air Force Nurse Corps from 1970-1972. Sue Lamm-Gurley was born 1 August 1948 in Wilson County, North Carolina. She grew up on a farm that sold tobacco and cotton and graduated from high school in 1966. After high school, Lamm-Gurley went to Wilson School for Nursing. She graduated in 1969, became a registered nurse (RN) and then immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. Lamm-Gurley went to Shepard Air Force Base, Texas in January 1970 for officer training. Then she assigned to David Grant Air Force Base, California at the female surgical ward where she worked as a RN and was a postop nurse. In March 1971, Lamm-Gurley assigned to go to Vietnam. She was stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam with the 366th USAF Dispensary where she mainly dealt with minor injuries. She also worked in the 22nd Aeromedical Staging Flight where soldiers would go when they needed to be medevaced out. Lamm-Gurley move between these two places during her stint in Vietnam. After being discharged in 1972 she went on to work in the Veterans Administration for over 30 years before retiring in 2003.
