Sue Oliver (b. 1947). of Alton, Illinois, served in the United States Women Marines from 1969-1972 and the New York Army National Guard/Army Reserve from 1978-1983. Sue Oliver was born on 18 November 1947. Oliver joined the United States Women Marines in Springfield, Illinois in June 1969. Oliver completed Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, Virginia in 1969. After OCS, she was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. She then attended Personnel Administration School at Parris Island, South Carolina in 1969. Later that same year, she spent two weeks on recruiting duty at Western Illinois University (WIU) and the University of Illinois. In 1970, Oliver was stationed at Camp Smith in Hawaii. While at Camp Smith, she was an officer in the Awards and Decoration Branch of Fleet Marine Force Pacific (FMFPAC) and then served as 1st Commanding Officer of the Women Marine Company. Oliver worked at Camp Smith in Hawaii until 1972 when she left the Marines. In 1978, Oliver joined the New York Army National Guard/Army Reserve in Buffalo, New York. She initially served as a Race Relation/Equal Opportunity Officer and then as Group Communications Officer. Oliver also served at the Army Reserve Unit in Amherst, New York where she served as the 01-Administration Officer/Signal Officer until 1983. Sue Oliver met and married her husband, Thomas S. Oliver, Jr., and they raised three children.
