Geraldine Muse Phillips (b. 1927) of Birmingham, Alabama, and North Carolina served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) from February 1949 until 1950. Geraldine Muse Phillips was born on 19 March 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama. Her father worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the family moved frequently. Phillips graduated from the high school department of Pinelands College in Salemburg, North Carolina. She attended the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1948 for one year. In February 1949, Phillips joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC). She went to Camp Lee, Virginia, with the purpose of going to Officer Candidate School, but washed out after four months and took a job as a platoon sergeant of a clerk typist school. On 18 February 1950, she married Jack Phillips, and she left the service one month later. The couple lived in Boston, Massachusetts, and Florida, before returning to North Carolina in 1979. Phillips had five children.
