Panel presentation at the 2021 Association of College and Research Libraries Conference. In recent years, academic libraries have made concerted efforts to establish student success librarian positions to further support student wellbeing and retention. Often, these positions are intentionally filled by early-career librarians who identify as first-generation scholars or who hold other marginalized identities - making them both more able to empathize and connect with students, and more at risk of microaggressions, burnout, or low morale. This panel presents five academic librarians-of-color currently in student success positions, who also hold a number of identities among them, including first-generation scholar, migrant, and queer.
