Abstract

This is a research project that focused on how frames in the local context can affect participants' responses when responding to survey questions. The study specializes in topics that are relevant to students who go to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with participants being students at UNC Greensboro. The study focuses on both emphasis and equivalency frames, as well as how knowledge of a subject or topic can affect a participant's response to a frame. There is a literature review that focuses on what has been covered in previous studies on frames as well as how it relates to the local context. However, there have been few studies that have explicitly focused on local framing. The survey and the questions it had are discussed and analyzed in detail. There is also a conclusion that summarizes the data that has been collected, especially how emphasis frames, not just equivalency frames, can have an impact on how participants responded to the questions; and how the more knowledge someone has about Greensboro makes it more likely they know about the questions being asked and therefore be able to make a concise answer.
