APPENDIX II THE CHARTER 0F BENNETT COLLEGE

An act to incorporate Bennett College, at Greensboro,9 N. Co The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

SECTION l. That Charles H. Moore, C. N. Grandison, John P. Morris, L. B. Gibson, D. B. Yancey, J. E. Champlin, w. P. Hayes, E° M° Collett, Aaron Mendenhall, J. C. Hartzell, Wm. H. Phillips, A. M. Hall, G. waddy,

E. N. Smith, John W. Woody, W. F. Steele, and their associates and

successors, to a number not to exceed twenty-five at any one time, of

whom a majority shall be members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, are hereby constituted and declared to be a body corporate under the name of Bennett College, and by such name, as trustees, may acquire and may hold at any one time real and personal property not to exceed five hundred thousand dollars, which property shall be exempt from all taxation; may convey the same under seal: may sue and be sued in any court of the State; may prescribe courses of study, literary, techni- cal, professional or otherwise, and confer degrees: and may have all the powers, rights and privileges granted or to be granted to any in- stitution of learning in the State, or belonging to corporations. SECTION 2. The principal office shall be in the city or suburbs of Greensboro, North Carolina, but auxiliary schools and preparatory departments may be carried on at such places as the trustees may choose. SECTION 3. The corporators or any five of them may call a meeting at

such time as they may agree upon for the purpose of completing the
