Musical activities were frequent and popular with the Bennett students. In l925—l926 the school male quartette performed several times for city occasions among the white peOple and also took perform» ances to other parts of the stateo The mixed quartette was likewise active. The two quartettes “carried off great honors at the Annual Conference of the M. E. Church“ in Raleigh, November, l925.205 Besides the two quartettes and the school octette,206 individual vocal, piano,

and violin performances were presented at the college.207 A comedy

In literary matters the students participated not only in the Bennett Literary Society and the Cornelian Ring,209 but also in the debating team. The Bennett Debating Team, affiliated with the North Carolina High School Debating League, chose topics of significant qual= ity. The l92A topic, for instance, was “Resolved, That the Inter- Allied War Debts Should be Cancelled“; the l925 topic, ”gesglved, That

the United States Should Join the World Court“; and the 1926 topic,
