Home, then, the total number of buildings on the campus in 1915 must have been either five or six, depending upon the existence of the pri— mary building first mentioned in 1899-4900.”2 Some additional information was reported about the facilities of these buildings. Central Building was used not only for girl board- ers, classes, administrative offices, and dining areas, but also for the library and the laboratory. Carolina Hall was equipped with steam heat, "complete sanitary plumbing," shower baths with hot and cold

water, and electric lights.133 Conditions generally, however, remained

crowded, and enlargement of the boysI dormitory and erection of an
