and assisted in the missionary work. Relations with the college were

excellent at the beginning of Grandison's term, but ”considerable disu affection’1 over the question of “home rule“ occurred during the l89l- l892 year. In addition, at the beginning of the fall term, the Home had some difficulty obtaining girls because those admitted to Kent were required to “give service for tuition” at Bennett, and therefore could not contribute money or work hours at Kent Home.’+7 The growth of the college during the three years of Grandison‘s presidency seems to have been a tribute to his leadership. Even though rising costs and inadequate incomes had placed the school on an insecure financial basis, the college continued to grow in terms of students and faculty. The relationships of the students with each other and with the faculty, as well as the relationship between the school and the

citizens of Greensboro, spoke well for the years of Dr. Grandison”s

presidency.
