The American Baptist Home Mission Society? an organization of Northern Baptists, founded Shaw University in l865.50 It also aided- three of the North Carolina schools established by the Negro Baptists.5]

The Northern Presbyterians were also busy in North Carolinao Various sources show that at least ten different Negro schools had been established by Northern Presbyterians between l86l and 1904.52 Johnson C.
