Troy V. Gilley and his wife Alice operated the Tip Top Service Station and Grocery Store on Summit Ave. for over 35 years. Alice M. Gilley was born January 30, 1916 in Winterville, North Carolina. to Charles Quincy Martin and Queenie Barber Martin. She was the youngest of five children, raised during the Great Depression. She and her husband, Troy V. Gilley, opened Tip Top Service Station and Grocery Store on Summit Ave., which they ran over 35 years.
