Description

Many of the most fragile cemeteries in need of preservation in the US are African American burial grounds that too often went undocumented and later neglected or abandoned. The need to identify and preserve African American burial sites is clear. Too many of these cemeteries have already been lost and for too long the lives and contributions of African Americans have been ignored. These sites provide important opportunities to learn, grow, and better understand our collective history.
