Description

The bulk of the letters contained in this folder were written in response to Mary Mendenhall Hobbs requesting the names of influential and active Quaker women. Correspondents include Josiah W. Leeds, Ana Rhoads Ladd, Timothy Nicholson, Abbie S. Hill, Annie L. Stuart, Margaret I. Cane, and Nathan H. Clark. A copy of Mary's originial letter of request is included among the letters. There is also an undated essay by Mary titled ""Influence of Women as Friends"" and a copy of The Friend (religious and literary journal) dated Twelfth Month 30, 1899.
