This June 24, 1982, article by Larry King of the Greensboro Daily News reports on testimony by former Nazi Roger L. Shannon before a federal grand jury investigating possible civil rights violations related to the murders of five Communist Workers Party members at the Death to the Klan march in Greensboro on November 3, 1979. Shannon testified that undercover federal agent Bernard Butkovich had contacted him shortly after the incident requesting that he help hide accused Klan members. He also mentioned other statements by Butkovich, including a suggestion that Klan leader Joe Grady be assassinated. Butkovich, an agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, had infiltrated racist groups prior to the incident.
