Description

Made in honor of "War Against Waste Day" during Civilian Defense Week, this brief speech recognized the importance of every American in the war effort and stressed the public’s responsibility in conserving resources such as coal, steel, timber, rubber, and even food and clothing. She emphasizes self-discipline and encourages Americans to “buy wisely,” and stretch the use of everything they use and wear. At the end of the recording, Elliott asks Americans to take the “Consumer’s Pledge for Total Defense,” promising to waste nothing, thereby promoting strategic national defense.
