Description

This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings highlighting the growth, events and achievements of the staff and student body between 1934 and 1937. Highlighted are the successes of notable namesakes of current A&T departments including Richard B. Harrison's tour in "The Green Pastures", the rise of the art department under H. Taylor Clinton, J. H. Marteena as head of the mechanical department, and the dedication of the Marcus Cicero Stephens Noble Hall building. Visits from noted educators include George Washington Carver, Nannie Helen Burroughs, and J. A. Tarpley. Many articles detail concerns of statewide school officials for the growing need of teachers. Researchers can also read of past victories of the football, basketball, and tennis teams, the debate club, and performances of the college bands and choirs.
