Anna Bell Dickieson (1922-2011) graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Music from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 1946, she married George Dickieson who was a faculty member at the College's School of Music. Dickieson describes growing up in Greensboro, North Carolina; being a day student and a music voice major; social and academic life on campus during World War II; and her thoughts about campus administrators and faculty. She talks about Communism and the Red Scare of the 1950s as well as the controversy surrounding the tenure of Chancellor Edward Kidder Graham, Jr.
