At the time of this interview (Spring 2023), Faith Gray was a senior student at UNCG. Gray begins the interview by talking about her family, growing up in Fuquay-Varina, NC, and attending Fuquay-Varina High School. Gray discusses her decision to UNCG after a visit to the school and her acceptance shortly thereafter. Gray was majoring in Political Science (pre-law concentration) and talks about life at UNCG, working with First Year Experience (FYE), and being a Peer Academic Leader (PAL). Gray discusses her work with the UNCG College Democrats where she had served as Vice President and President. Gray was also involved with the Student Government Association (SGA) as a Senior Senator and Chair of the Social Justice, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Gray worked especially hard to heighten awareness of the needs of UNCG disabled students and community, including instituting Burgundy Zone training (Disability Awareness Training). Gray talks at length about her experiences as a student at UNCG during the CVOID-19 pandemic. After her first semester at UNCG in the fall of 2019, The pandemic hit campus in March of 2020. Gray recounts her experiences in dealing with the closing of school, shift to online and hybrid coursework, mental health issues that students faced, precautions that she took to stay safe, missing a lot of traditional college events and opportunities due to the pandemic, and eventually a return to more normal campus life. Gray concludes the interview by describing the type of student that attends UNCG, her post graduation plans, and how UNCG has affected her and what it means to her.
