Liam Kim-Cruz, class of 2022, talked about their family, early life and background as a mixed Korean American. They primarily grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and attended Forsyth Technical Community College before UNCG. They talk about their experiences at UNCG and their involvement with Japanese Club, Korean Student Association (KSA) and Native American Student Association (NASA). They were president and language chair of both Japanese Club and KSA. Kim-Cruz shared briefly their experience as a first-generation college student and what it means to them. They also share their experience as a mixed Korean American, the racism and microaggression they have experienced. Kim-Cruz discuss their memories and experience during the COVID-19 pandemic and how they reacted to the Anti-Asian Hate. The interview concludes with them sharing what they have been doing after graduating, advise of current students and how UNCG impacted them.
