Description
Dr. Etsuko Kinefuchi discussed briefly where she grew up and her education experience. She talked about getting an education in Japan, going aboard to the United States and then later, moving to Oregon to receive her second bachelor’s and master’s in communications. Dr. Kinefuchi received her Ph.D in intercultural communications at Arizona State University. She talks about where she worked before working at UNCG, why she decided to work at UNCG and her impressions of the university. She discusses her role in the Department of Communications as a senior faculty member, and how she developed an interest in the environment and became an affiliate faculty member with the Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability. Dr. Kinefuchi shares her research and teaching highlights in the 20 years she has been teaching at UNCG. She is a faculty senator, so she talked about the academic program review that has been occurring on campus and shared some insight in her role in that position. Dr. Kinefuchi talks about her experience as an international Asian faculty member at UNCG, in the community, and what UNCG could do better to support the Asian community as a whole (students, faculty and staff). She also shared some about her first memories of the COVID-19 pandemic, how UNCG responded, and how it affected work and home life. The interview concludes with Dr. Kinefuchi sharing what UNCG means to her and how it has impacted her life.
