Poster presented on October 9, 2020 at the STELLA (Science, Technology, and Engineering Library Leaders in Action) biennial unconference. Science and instructional librarians often teach information literacy specific to their discipline. However, data literacy has not traditionally been part of the librarian's instruction realm. One barrier is the need to include both general and discipline specific concepts. Chemistry and other STEM fields include data instruction for both classroom and laboratory but, are faculty teaching data literacy concepts with the existing curriculum? We set out to define data competencies for chemistry and find out how many are currently being taught in undergraduate chemistry classes. This lightning talk will explore our research question and describe how we defined these competencies.
