Description

Primarily documents the adolescence of June Therese Thomas Swearengin and her service with the United States Air Force. Swearengin recalls her experiences as a foster child living in various homes, her encounters with racism, and her decision to join the air force as the culmination of a lifelong desire to fly in airplanes. Swearengin discusses the new experiences that the military offered her, as well as her work as the first female District Commander of the State of Colorado American Legion. She also mentions two books she wrote: The Question: Give Up or Get Out? and The American Legion and Me.
