Description

Primarily documents the life of Melissa L. Culbreth and her service as a chaplain with the North Carolina Army National Guard. Culbreth recalls being intrigued by the military from an early age, and with the idea of becoming a chaplain. She details the process of getting to know her soldiers by visiting various National Guard Armories throughout North Carolina, preforming religious services and conducting counseling. She also discusses the problems that come with coordinating large groups of soldiers, sometimes upwards of two thousand. Culbreth discusses the frustrations she had with fellow battalion chaplains, the many obligations that go into being a military chaplain, and the importance of meeting with the families of soldiers killed in action to assure them that their loved one had been taken care of.
