Description

Primarily documents the life of Sally Ann Weeks Benson and her service with the United States Navy.Benson recalls dealing with gender stereotypes while growing up, and then again throughout her military career. She also recalls the diversity of her peers and supervisors, and being assigned to many positions that she was not ranked for. Benson describes finding out she was capable of learning so much more than she could imagine, the importance of maintaining good relationships within the communities of other countries, and the responsibility she felt to speak up for other soldiers that may not have had a voice, even if they were not direct reports.
