Description
Primarily documents the life of Sandra Van Neel Ross and her service with the United States Army Nurse Corps. Ross describes her introduction to cardiac monitoring, a new concept at the time, her interest in neurosurgery, and the continued nurses training she received in Vietnam. She recalls rest and recuperation, or R&R, trips to Hong Kong, China; Bangkok, Thailand; and Seoul, South Korea; as well as USO shows featuring Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, and Fess Parker. Ross describes being a mentor to fellow nurses at various duty stations, how working together as a team makes a difference, and her vision of the military as a way to learn, grow, and contribute in some way.
