Description

Primarily documents the life of Niddavanh "Niddie" Miyo and her service as a Seabee with the United States Navy. Miyo recalls the physically difficulties she experienced throughout her time as a Seabee, using willpower to push through those difficulties, and how she was then able to encourage others to do the same. She recalls participating in a military climate change survey that dealt with racial issues, sexual harassment, and how sailors were feeling in general about the U.S. Navy. She also describes her willingness to volunteer for projects while deployed, and work with Team Rubicon, a veterans' service organization, after separating from the navy. Personal topics include the betrayal that Miyo perceived from fellow sailors whom she viewed as close friends, as well as the emotional difficulties she encountered, such as the loneliness she felt when deployed, and the realization, when she returned to from overseas, that she needed time to concentrate on healing herself, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
