Description

Primarily documents the life of Maya Marshall and her service with the United States Army. Marshall recalls being able to experience different part of world and United States due to her mother's service as a U.S. Navy chaplain, and influential experiences she had from meeting people from all over the world. She also recalls one of the main things she was taught in the military was to never be complacent, and how this lesson was probably the biggest thing she's brought out of the service. Marshall describes realizing that as a female and African-American, is was important for her to show that she was worthy, and she was more than her gender or skin color. She describes her feelings of gratefulness knowing that everything she has, every benefit she has coming in, she earned it by serving her country. Marshall also recalls the strong bonds she was able to form with people because they were all experiencing the same things, and how they helped and supported one another.
