Charlesanna L. Fox (1910-2012) of Asheboro, North Carolina, attended North Carolina College for Women (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). After graduation in 1930, she taught history in Maxton, North Carolina, until she took a job at a Washington, D.C., library in 1934. She returned home three years later to attend library school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from library school, she worked first in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and then in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she was when World War II began.
