Louise Nash Dorsett (1913-2011) of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, served in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from 1942 to 1945. Louise Nash (1913-2011) was born in Boulder, Colorado, and raised in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, the daughter of a hydroelectric engineer and a teacher. Nash graduated from high school in Mt. Gilead and then attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, for one year. She transferred to the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and graduated in 1934 with a degree in English.
