Marthalou Hunter (1914-2006) of Cullowhee, North Carolina, served as a lab technician while a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and the Women's Army Corps from 1943 to 1947. She later had a career in serology and public health in North Carolina and Georgia. Marthalou Hunter was born in Weaverville, North Carolina, in 1914. She attended Western Carolina Teachers' College in Cullowhee (now Western Carolina University) for two years and then studied at the University of Arizona. She attended nursing school at Duke University for one year but received her bachelor's degree from Western Carolina and taught science from 1936 to 1938 at Celeste Hinkle High School in Statesville, North Carolina.
