Millie Dunn Veasey (1918-2018) was born on 31 January 1918 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She Veasey attended Washington High School in Raleigh, and after graduating, worked with the Wake County extension agent. In December 1942, Veasey enlisted in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and took examinations at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in January 1943. She went to Fort Devers, Colorado, for basic training, and was stationed at Fort Clark, Texas, as a clerk for the cooks and bakers school until the spring of 1944. She was then transferred to Camp Maxey, Texas, where she served as a company clerk and performed secretarial duties in a hospital.
