Ruby Ficklin Bryant (1908-2002) of Emmerton, Virginia, was born in 1908. She graduated from the Army School of Nursing, Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, DC in 1932. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1934. She served in Manila and Corregidor, Philippines from 1937-1940 where she helped establish the Malinta Tunnel Hospital. During World War II she served in Georgia and Maryland and in 1944 she was promoted to lieutenant colonel while serving as director of nursing service at the Fourth Service Command in Atlanta, Georgia. After World War II, Bryant returned to the Philippines where she was the director of nurses in the Far East Command based in Tokyo.
