Teressa Jenkins Lawrence (b. 1956), of Wilson, North Carolina, served in the United States Army from 1978 to 1981. Teressa Jenkins Lawrence was born 13 February 1956 in Wilson, North Carolina. She attended a segregated elementary school and was involved with Girl Scouts of the United States of Americirca Lawrence graduated high school in 1974, and began studies at Howard University in Washington D.C. When she could no longer afford to attend college, Lawrence decided to join the United States Army. In the summer of 1977, Lawrence began basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, and was then assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, where she worked in transportation and supply.
