Frances Peden Summerell of China Grove, North Carolina, attended the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) from 1913-1916. She participated in the Y.W.C.A., Athletic Association, Dramatic Club, Hockey team, Basketball team, and Tennis team. She served her class as Senior Class Vice President and graduated in 1916 with a Bachelor of Pedagogy degree. The scrapbook includes mounted or inserted cards, pictures, photographs, invitations, correspondence, valentines, clippings, booklets, receipts, and personal notes and autographs from friends and classmates, with passages inscribed to Frances Summerell.
