Linda Jones served in the American Red Cross in Korea in 1968-1969 and in Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Linda Ruth Johnson Jones was born in 1944 in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she also grew up. Upon graduating from high school in 1962, she spent her first year of college at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina before transferring to UNC Greensboro, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Jones then worked as a teacher at a Dependents School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for a year before entering the American Red Cross in September of 1968.
