Patricia A. Harris (b. 1960) was born 21 September 1960 in Raleigh, North Carolina. During her adolescence, Harris participated in her high school marching band, Girl Scouts, and American Legion Unit 157's Junior Auxiliary. After graduating from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1978, Harris attended Civella Beauty School, now known as Civella Beauty Academy, in Raleigh, before deciding to enlist in the United States Army Reserve in May 1979. Harris was sent to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for basic training, where she had her first encounter with military sexual harassment.
