Sarah Clapp Haworth (1920-2011) served in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) and worked with the The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II. Sarah Clapp Haworth was born in Swannanoa, North Carolina in 1920. She finished high school in 1937, attending college at Asheville Normal and Teacher's College. Upon completing her college degree, she took a teaching job in Rockwell, North Carolina, where she was when Pearl Harbor was attacked in December of 1941. The following summer of 1942, Haworth went to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to enlist, then two months later, traveled to Fort Des Moines in Iowa for basic training.
