Violet Kathleen Caudle (1925-2011) of Iredell County, North Carolina, performed library work in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1945 to 1949, and then spent over thirty years as a librarian in North Carolina. Violet Kathleen Caudle was born on June 30, 1925 in Iredell Country, North Carolina, to a tenant farmer and was raised all across the state. After graduating from high school in 1942, she worked in a mill. Caudle enlisted in the WAC on 30 June 1945 and attended basic training at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. She stayed at the base to attend clerk school and in November 1945 was sent to Camp Croft, South Carolina, where she worked briefly as a hospital receptionist before being transferred to the hospital library.
